1906 Ankeny Duplex Razed for 27-Unit Four-Story Building

PORTLAND, Ore. – A 109-year-old duplex in the Buckman neighborhood of Southeast Portland has been torn down to make way for a four-story multi-unit building, about a week and a half after the developer applied for and received a demolition permit on the same day.

Located at 1206 SE Ankeny St., the duplex was constructed in 1906 and totaled 1,761 square feet in size on a 4,832-square-foot lot.

On Aug. 14 the duplex was sold by Sherri and Ralph Austin to A12 Land Partners LLC for a price of $595,000.

The Austins had purchased the property in 2007 through a business name of Ankeny Lofts LLC for $735,000, but that sale included the 1906 house directly south of the duplex as well, which was then partitioned off and sold for $270,000.

A12 Land Partners LLC is registered to Michael Goeckner listing a business address at 4957 SW Wentworth Terrace in Beaverton.

On Oct. 2 the Bureau of Development Services received an application for construction of a four-story, 27-unit apartment complex on the 4,832-square-foot lot. The applicant was listed as Gabe Greiner of YBA Architects.

Two and a half months later on Dec. 17, the developer applied for demolition of the 109-year-old house. Because the house is classified as a duplex and not a single-family house, and is also located within a commercial zone, it was not subject to the 35-day demolition delay and the permit was issued the same day.
