Boise Home Built in 1898 Will Be Leveled

PORTLAND, Ore. – Demolition is planned for a Victorian-style house built 118 years ago in the Boise neighborhood of North Portland.

The home built in 1898 is located at 3635 N Missouri Ave., across the street from a sound wall separating I-5 from the neighborhood.

The property most recently sold in 2013 for $245,000 to Timothy Brown. Prior to the sale it was marketed as a “unique, compelling, original, authentic Mississippi Victorian” with a large yard, as well as a “versatile” shop, which the listing posited could be converted to a studio or accessory dwelling unit.

On Jan. 26 the Bureau of Development Services received an application to tear down the 118-year-old house and the associated shop building. The home demolition permit is subject to the 35-day delay, as the property is located in a residential zone, and the delay will likely expire March 1.

The applicant was listed as Mike Coyle of permit middleman company Faster Permits. The contractor was not listed.

No construction permits have been applied for, but the property’s zoning would allow for multiple new units. The 5,000-square-foot lot is located in an R2 zone, which allows for one residential unit per 2,000 square feet of land.
