PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Chronicle has received a tip that Dennis Sackhoff‘s Urban Development Group construction at Southeast 20th and Morrison is illegally blocking lanes of traffic without a permit.

A reader reported that the southbound lane of Southeast 20th Avenue was blocked on Jan. 26, with a flagger diverting traffic. Attempting to cross Morrison on bike, our reader found that city paving happening at the same time on 19th and 18th meant 20th was the only feasible crossing for several blocks in either direction.

It is also the only crossing in the area with a traffic light.

But with the lane closure it was impossible to cross in the street. Our reader later called the city and learned that Sackhoff has a permit for the sidewalk and parking area closure only, and does not have a permit to block a lane of traffic. After receiving another number to call for complaints, our reader reported the violation.

Later in the day our reader received a message that an inspector had been sent out to the site.

“Now whether they get the required permit is another matter, so I will call the same numbers every time I see this happen,” our reader wrote. “Other people should do the same.”

To report a street permit violation call 503-823-7002 and choose option 4.
