UDG Ankeny Development Takes Shape, Blocks Sunlight

PORTLAND, Ore. – A large apartment complex has been under construction on Southeast Ankeny Street since the fall, with one more story to go before it reaches its final height.

The property, previously covered by the Portland Chronicle in November, is owned by Dennis Sackhoff‘s Urban Development Group, which is working on a number of similar large complexes primarily in Southeast neighborhoods.

The building will be five stories in all, with 50 residential units. It will include some amount of automobile and bicycle parking.

Urban Development Group purchased the property in 2013 for $1,050,000. Before that it had most recently sold in 1995 for $95,000.

Space was made for the apartment complex by demolishing several structures but preserving a 90-year old single-family residence.

The structure on Southeast Ankeny Street is blocking sunlight across Ankeny at its current four stories, and will grow one more story before it is completed.

In November Urban Development Group received a permit to block the sidewalk in front of the property for three months. That permit expires Feb. 21.
